Halloween Activities for Families to Enjoy Around Bend

Posted by Cascade Village

The air is crisp, the leaves have turned, and tasty treats have taken over the grocery store aisles all around town. That’s right: Halloween is here. This year’s festivities look a little different, with that said Cascade Village Shopping Center will not be handing out candy this year! But there are still plenty of chances to dress up and celebrate the season. Here are a few fun (and safe) Halloween activities for families to enjoy at home this year.

The Best Halloween Activities for Families This Year:

Pick Your Perfect Pumpkin

Nothing says Halloween like carving a jack-o-lantern. If you’re looking for Halloween activities for families, head out to DD Ranch about 30 minutes northeast of Bend to hunt for your perfect pumpkin. The pumpkin patch is open 10:00 am to 5:00 pm daily from September 26 through October 31, 2020.

Smith Rock Ranch also offers pumpkin picking, a corn “maize,” and seasonal treats from the harvest market throughout October. As a precaution during COVID-19, tickets are required for certain activities at Smith Rock Ranch. Check their website for hours and availability.

Prefer to stay close to home? Cascade Village grocers Trader Joe’s and Food 4 Less have fresh pumpkins, gourds, and goodies in store, too.

Listen to Ghost Stories at the Museum

The High Desert Museum is calling all ghouls and goblins to celebrate Halloween at the Museum. Join the Miller family on October 24, 2020, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, for tall tales of not-so-wicked wildlife and peculiar traditions from the early 20th century. Costumes are encouraged, but please wear CDC-recommended face coverings instead of costume masks. This event is free with museum admission.

Participate in the Great Pumpkin Run

The 30th Annual Great Pumpkin Run is going virtual this year! The run benefits Home Life, an Oregon nonprofit dedicated to empowering people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to enjoy active and productive lives. As a virtual event, families can participate anywhere and run whatever distance they like between October 24 and 31, 2020. Grab your running gear at Dick’s Sporting Goods, dress up, strike a pose, and share your photos with Home Life on Facebook for a chance to win the costume contest.

Create a Spooky Movie Night

Don’t feel like going out this year? That’s okay, too. Put together a good old-fashioned spooky movie night at home. Stock up on candy and popcorn from Trader Joe’s and Food 4 Less at the Cascade Village Shopping Center. Then visit the last Blockbuster (right here in Bend) and rent your favorite family-friendly Halloween movies. Halloween-themed blanket forts optional but recommended.

Have Fun, Stay Safe

Remember to wash your hands, wear a CDC-recommended face mask, and opt for activities that allow for plenty of physical distancing. Lucky for us, fall in Bend is a beautiful time to play outdoors—or cozy up indoors. No matter how you choose to celebrate this year, visit us at Halloween activities for families to stock up on candy, costumes, hand sanitizer, and everything else you need to stay safe and get in the Halloween spirit.
