We’re fortunate that Bend is such a beautiful and dynamic place. As warmer weather approaches, we’re revisiting the top summer things to do in Bend, Oregon. Whether you’re headed out for adventure or staying in town, look no further than the CVSC for all of your “go do stuff” needs.

Top summer things to do in Bend, Oregon

Last month we talked about why we have the best shopping in town––from mountain views to our stores’ variety and abundance of local flair. The same things that set our outdoor mall apart from the rest make it a great starting point for the top things to do in Bend, Oregon. Want to take a mini trip in the area? We’ve got the supplies for that. Need a day of distraction for the kids or relaxation for yourself? Find it here, too.

Here are our best recommendations for the coming, warmer months:

Have a picnic at the lake

The Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway at the west end of town is literally the road to adventure. Along the three to five-hour drive, you can stop at dozens of lakes for hiking, swimming, water sports, and camping. Local favorites like Elk, Cultus, and Todd Lakes all offer stunning views. Prepare for the day at the lake with snacks and drinks from Trader Joe’s and lake gear at Dick’s Sporting Goods. In addition, grab a blanket and basket from Ross or World Market and fun cutlery and containers from Bed Bath & Beyond, and you’re set for the day.

Pro tip: No need for a drink cooler! Give your cans or bottles a little dip in the lake water (it’s snow runoff, after all!) for about 15 minutes, and they’ll be the perfect temp. After that, be sure to recycle your cans and bottles!

Host movie night under the stars

Bringing movie night to your backyard can make it feel extra special. All you need to pull it off is a project (like this one from Best Buy), a screen (see pro tip below), some blankets or chairs, and, above all, lots of delicious snacks. Don’t be afraid to go adventurous with your snack choices, like Buffalo Style Chicken Poppers from TJs and homemade chocolate bark made from theater candies and popcorn at Food 4 Less. And if you would rather not risk mosquito bites, the CVSC has what you need for an indoor at-home movie night as well.

Pro tip: You don’t have to buy a fancy projector screen. Simply use a spare white sheet attached to a flatter surface like your home’s exterior, and voila!

Shop, splash, relax

There’s something to be said for lazier summer days and staying in town. If you need a break, the CVSC has shopping for everyone in the family. From sports gear at Pro Image to bling at Harry Ritchie’s and everything in between, you can spend the day going between shops before enjoying one of our nine restaurants. And if the kiddos need a place to let out some energy? The water feature outside of Left Coast Burger Company offers a safe space to play.

Pro tip: Enjoy a to-go meal while watching your kids play in the water feature. And if you forget a towel for the car ride home, head to Ross!
