College Essentials | Dorm Room Decor in Bend

Posted by Cascade Village

Moving into the dorm rooms is a rite of passage. For many students, it’s the first time they live away from home or have a roommate. Often it is the first time they cook for themselves or do their laundry. For this reason, spending some quality time back to school shopping with your college freshman can help them determine the style they wish to be known for at their new school. Here are the essentials you need for dorm room decor in Bend, Oregon.

What You Need for Dorm Room Decor in Bend

What You Need to Decorate Their Bedroom

When living in a dorm room, bedroom decor often provides your student’s first impression on their new roommates and friends. Usually equipped with a bed, wardrobe, desk, and some shelves, all of these require your student’s personal touch.

For bedding, head to Bed Bath & Beyond for extra long twin sheets, a blanket, and a comforter, complete with pillows and pillow cases. Keep in mind that you’ll need to purchase two sets of sheets and pillow cases. This way one set can be in use while the other is in the wash. Your student will also need a reading light that can clip onto the bed frame as well as hangers for the closet.

Purchase a lamp for the desk, as well as any school supplies necessary. This including pens, pencils, highlighters, and spiral notebooks, all of which are available at World Market. If your student doesn’t yet have the electronics he or she needs, make a trip to Best Buy as well. There you can find a laptop, mouse, printer, printer ink, printer paper, and any other electronics your student might need to be successful.

Don’t forget the furnishings! Stop by World Market for posters, art, wall hangings, picture frames, bulletin boards, and other decorating items to make the dorm room feel like home.

How to Prepare for Communal Bathrooms

Sharing a bathroom with an entire floor takes some getting used to. It also takes a few new items your student might not have needed at home. A bathrobe helps him or her get down the hall. Shower shoes protect against a shared shower drain. Finally, a shower caddy holds shampoo, conditioner, soap, and a loofa to and from the bathrooms each morning. All of this, by the way, can be found at Bed Bath & Beyond.

You’ll also need a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, face wash, and a toiletry tote to carry all of the above for nighttime rituals. These are found at Trader Joe’s or World Market.

What They Need to Do Their Laundry

As students prepare to do their laundry down the hall, they’ll need a few items that will help them to do so with ease. Keep a laundry basket in the dorm room to contain dirty clothing. Though you might want to consider one with several compartments to sort their coloreds from their whites.

You’ll also need a caddy that can carry laundry detergent, bleach, a stain stick, and fabric sheets so that they can everything down the hall to do their laundry. A timer is also handy to time the length of the load so students remember to change out their laundry the second it’s done. Once again, all of this can be found at Bed Bath & Beyond.

How to Help Them Cook for Themselves

It’s important that students are able to cook en suite. Have your student check in with their dorm mates to see who will provide the microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, plates, bowls, silverware, and mugs for the room. Then stop by Best Buy and World Market to purchase your assigned items.
